ANA MARIA SCHAPIRA

Tango teacher and dancer, Ana Maria Schapira has been teaching Argentine and foreign students for the last eighteen years. Today she has her own academy, in which she trains dozens of students a week, with the aid of a group of assistants and instructors. She gives her students the tools that allow them to dance in milongas in Buenos Aires and the rest of the world.

Ana Maria has worked extensively with milongueros to keep the traditional social tango alive. Her work consists in rescuing the spontaneous choreographies that talented, anonymous old milongueros repeat night after night in the milongas. This work, almost anthropological, assures the survival of movements that otherwise might be forgotten.

She has taught seminars on technique for leaders and followers for many years, in tango and vals. A great teacher, she not only shares her knowledge with her students but is also permanently training her instructors and assistants.

She is a judge for the tango festivals organized by the Secretary of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, in which she has also taught since 2002. She taught in the World Tango Festival in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
